Writing Coaching Reviews
Dillon gave exact places of where my writing was unclear. This greatly helped me to understand how an outside reader may get confused while reading various parts of my essay.
I learned ways to be concise and still get my point across and how to combine some of my ideas. I also learned that reading it out loud makes a big difference and shows what makes sense, what needs to be explained more, and catches errors.
I improved my thesis in order to have it more explicitly answer the question that the prompt is asking. I also managed to slightly shorten my paper in order to have it meet the page limit for my paper by examining which pieces of evidence I needed for my paper and which pieces of evidence I did not need.
I got advice on whether I was staying on topic or not and if I was addressing each part of the essay prompt. These were my main two concerns so I was satisfied when he helped me with that. Also, he helped me through his own questions since I needed an outside perspective and wanted to make sure that someone understood my paper.
We discussed the flow of my paper and how to make better word choices in order to allow for the full understanding of all my main points. We talked of diction and flow and really went through the body of the paper to make sure all of my rubric requirements were adequately checked.
I was able to talk through some of the ideas that I have been struggling to articulate. I worked on an action plan for the final paragraph of my application essay and feel more confident now that my essay has hit upon all of the critical pieces required in the application.
Dillon gave me a lot of constructive criticism, which helped a lot. I never felt belittled, which was really nice.
