My Career & Education

I am a freelance writing coach and a full-time technical writer. I earned a B.A. in Linguistics, English, and Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). My academic journey has provided a solid foundation for my current roles, including my experience as a former writing coach and pronunciation tutor at UNC’s Writing and Learning Center, as well as a writing instructor at CampWrite UNC.

At UNC, I studied theoretical linguistics, which investigates the underlying framework shared by all languages and includes the major linguistic sub-disciplines of phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. I concentrated my studies on sociolinguistics (the study of how society influences language), historical linguistics (the study of language change over time), and the history, structure, and usage of English. In my English and comparative literature studies, I developed research, argumentation, synthesis, and writing skills to deliver clear, concise, and effective communication.

As a writing coach at UNC’s Writing and Learning Center, I completed intensive training and used a collaborative coaching model (Co-Active) to work with students across the College of Arts and Sciences. This coaching model enabled me to enhance not only their writing assignments but also their overall writing abilities and confidence. By fostering collaboration between coaches and students, regardless of the subject matter or the writing stage, we ensured comprehensive support and development for each student’s writing journey.

In addition to coaching, I served as an English pronunciation tutor at UNC, assisting international graduate students in improving their American English pronunciation through real-world conversations and analysis of syllabic stress, intonation, manners of articulation, and the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

Furthermore, I worked as a writing instructor at CampWrite UNC, guiding middle and high school students in narrative writing skills and assisting them in preparing their final drafts for publication.

As a technical writer at HealthStream, I bridge the gap between technology and its users by creating digital content that empowers individuals to master software. I specialize in developing training and educational materials, including documentation and eLearning content, for healthcare software used by clinicians nationwide. My work simplifies complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language, enhancing user competence and experience.
